Thank you!Īirbnb has sold the idea that guests can get luxury accommodation for flophouse prices, and simultaneously sold hosts on the idea that they can get paid a lot of money for very little work. I am just curious to know from your POV why the issues above are so common now. I promise I am not a jerk and I have perfect ratings on Airbnb so I would be surprised if hosts are trying to regulate me. Speaking of fees, Airbnbs are just as expensive as hotels now, so it's hard not to justify just staying in a hotel where I don't have to take out the trash myself at the end of my stay. However, I find that cleaning fees are higher than ever and don't justify the amount of cleaning I have to do when I check out.

Why does Airbnb suck so much now? I have theories, like I assume hosts are trying to save money and protect their investments. I'm in a standalone place right now that has crazy rules about Air Conditioning and I have to ask the host permission every time I want to change it. I'm not talking about not leaving the place trashed, but taking out trash, stripping the bed, doing a load of laundry, etc. Many places I stay expect you to clean up before you go beyond a reasonable amount. Unwanted messages from hosts during my stay 'checking in' etc.

I usually never need to work with Airbnb directly but I assume some of their policies are trickling down to hosts and impacting the quality of my stays. I have been using Airbnb as a guest since 2012 and work in tech, so it's really interesting to hear your side of things.Īirbnb deeply sucks now compared to years ago.
